Rae Ritter

Current Role:

Director of Client Service + Marketing

What motivates you to work hard?

It was just ingrained in me from my parents at a young age. Whatever thing you do, you try your best. It was just expected. And when I played sports and took hard courses in school, it was easy to see a correlation between practice and hard work and results: grades and performance on the field/court/pool. I don’t embrace being a perfectionist because it conflicts with the artist in me, but I live in that neighborhood.

How long have you worked at LISI?

About five and half years. Wow, time flies when you’re having fun!

What were your previous employment roles and responsibilities?

Previously, I was the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing in a large national law firm, Ballard Spahr LLP. In that role, I managed a team of legal tech marketers and all the firm’s digital marketing strategy, including the website and SEO, CRM, email marketing, blogs, and social media. Before that, I was in a similar role at Dechert LLP, an international firm. While there, I spent a year-long secondment in their London office rolling out the firm’s CRM to a pilot group.

What has been the most important career advice you were given so far?

Just ask for what you want. If you think you deserve a promotion or raise, get yourself organized with data and detail, clearly present your case and explain why you deserve it and see what happens. What’s the worst that can happen? If you are undervalued—that is an important thing to know.

What do you like to do outside of the office?

I live in Philadelphia and I love my city. I love how walkable it is and that there are always things going on like street festivals, sports events, theater, music in the park, restaurant openings, and people everywhere! It’s a city of neighborhoods, so it has a small feeling for such a big city, and I really enjoy running into people I know all over the place. And if I’m not out exploring my city, you’ll probably find me at a nearby playground watching my children run wild while I enjoy a little *happy* hour with some fellow parent friends.

What is one thing on your bucket list you can’t wait to do?

I had planned to go on a hot air balloon ride last summer, but it was postponed. It seems like a beautiful way to see the country-side.

What is your favorite movie?

Love Actually. Unlike so many older movies, it holds up to the test of time. Love actually is all around us!

Name one fun fact about you that would surprise others?

I fish. Freshwater and saltwater, ponds, lakes, bays, and deep sea. The biggest fish I caught was a 36-pound Halibut off the coast of Victoria, British Columbia. It was a doozy to bring up from 150 feet, but exciting and so delicious to eat. There’s something very satisfying about catching my own food. I also enjoy clamming and crabbing.

If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be?

Michelle Obama. She uplifts everyone and everything around her. I want to absorb some of that mojo and spread it around.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Chocolate with swirls of peanut butter, but it’s best enjoyed on a bench on the boardwalk at the beach.

Where is your favorite place you have visited?

This is a tough question because I love to travel and explore new places. I’ve been to 29 countries, and my kids had passports since they were babies. I love to explore on bike or foot or just totally relax. I can’t pick a single favorite, but some of my favorite cities are Amsterdam, Barcelona, Reykjavik, Hong Kong, Vancouver, Marrakesh, Negril, and Ocean City, Maryland!
